Volkl Blaze 94

OUR REVIEW OF THE VOLKL BLAZE 94

With its flat camber, ultra-progressive tip, and rear rocker, the Blaze 94 is a delight in soft snow. Whether in very deep snow or spring snow, it is a joy to ride with great maneuverability and a very playful behavior. Even at high speeds, the ski remains pleasant and quite stable. Less technical skiers will enjoy its exceptional accessibility. The picture darkens in more compact and tracked snow. The Blaze 95 gets a bit more shaken, and you need to quickly calm the pace. The same goes for hard snow. On the ascent, its long rocker is not very handicapping, and it climbs quite well in hard snow with straight edges that inspire confidence. Its weight is not the lightest, and you will need to mount a light binding if you plan to do significant elevation gains. A good second pair to take out when the conditions are right.

MANUFACTURER’S OPINION

The Blaze range oriented towards freerando makes its appearance at Volkl with weights heavier than the touring range but still well-positioned for considering elevation gain. You will find the Volkl Blaze 94 touring ski (3080g in 179cm), the Blaze 106 (3400g in 179cm), and their women’s equivalents. These skis have a wood core and longer radii. All that’s left is to test them on the snow. A touring ski with a contained weight, fun and easy to ski with a Hybrid Wood core: Poplar, Paulownia, and isocore from tip to tail. The use of specific elastomer tips in the tip and tail offers more comfort in powder.
