OUR REVIEW OF THE LA SPORTIVA SENDER SHOE

The Sender replaces the Vanguard with clear improvements — not just on paper, but especially on snow. Not much heavier (2980g per pair in 26.5), more precise, and offering increased range of motion, it firmly targets the freeride / touring crossover segment.

On snow, the flex is relatively firm and fully consistent with its intended freeride-touring use. It feels solid and capable of handling strong, aggressive input without collapsing. What stands out most is how uniform the flex feels: thanks to the four buckles extending fairly high up the cuff, the flex remains consistent and progressive. You can really drive the boot hard while maintaining comfort and control.

La Sportiva has also reinforced the lower shell, limiting deformation in this critical area. A very good move — because performance is not only about cuff stiffness. Here, the whole structure works cohesently under pressure, even when pushing wide skis.

In terms of overall efficiency, the weight-to-performance ratio is impressive. This is clearly a boot that can confidently drive skis up to 110–120 mm underfoot without feeling like a burden on the ascent — and without sacrificing comfort.

The four-buckle setup might suggest slower transitions, but the buckles are easy to handle and compensate for that minor drawback. The EZ Lock Buckle system remains reliable and effective. That said, overall ergonomics felt slightly more intuitive on the previous Vanguard, with a simpler operation.

Entry is easy thanks to the overlap shell construction, which opens wide and makes stepping in straightforward — even in cold conditions.

On the uphill, the range of motion is generous and more than sufficient for long alpine touring days. The stride feels natural, and the boot never feels restrictive on rolling terrain or during tight kick turns.

In the end, the Sender could almost make the older Vega redundant in the lineup: similar performance, controlled weight, and greater versatility. It truly fits the “one boot to do it all” category.
