OUR REVIEW OF THE SALOMON MTN 96 CARBON
MANUFACTURER’S OPINION
The Salomon MTN 96 carbon is the flagship ski of Salomon’s new ski touring range. After no less than 6 seasons on the clock, (yes, it’s been six years!), the Salomon MTN range is renewed. The brand has focused on sustainability with a good portion of recycled materials and announces better maneuverability and a more “fun” behavior. On the menu, 3 new widths with variations according to construction:
– MTN 96 Carbon: 2760g per pair in 174cm, available in 166, 174, and 182cm
– MTN 86 Carbon: 2240g per pair in 172cm, available in 156, 164, 172,180 and in women’s version
– MTN 86 Pro: 2400g per pair in 172cm, available in 156, 164, 172,180 and in women’s version
– MTN 80 Carbon: 1960g per pair in 164cm, available in 158, 164, and 170cm
– MTN 80 Pro: 2280g per pair in 164cm, available in 158, 164, and 170cm
The carbon versions are equipped, as their names suggest, with a carbon construction associated with a Karuba core with a little more lightness. While the Pro versions are equipped with a Karuba / Poplar core. Salomon announces a positioning rather for intermediate and beginner skiers for the pro version, and rather for experienced skiers for the carbon versions. To be seen in the field! The MTN 96 is manufactured in Austria and dedicated Salomon skins are available as an option.
With enough lightness to facilitate ascents while offering generous width for a rewarding freerando experience, the MTN 96 CARBON shines both uphill and downhill. It inherits all the qualities of the famous Salomon MTN 95, but features a sidecut inspired by alpine skis, combined with a lighter carbon construction. Additionally, part of its composition is made from recycled and natural materials.
Regarding uphill efficiency, this model is the lightest among our wide touring skis, benefiting from carbon reinforcements that minimize the effort required for climbing, thus preserving your energy for exceptional downhill performance, pushing your limits.
For uncompromising downhill performance, the MTN 96 CARBON is equipped with the Cork Damplifier, an exclusive Salomon innovation integrated at the tip, which absorbs terrain vibrations and enhances ski stability in all snow conditions.
Regarding its construction, the MTN skis take a step forward towards sustainability by integrating a coating composed of 30% recycled materials, as well as a fully recycled base.
