OUR REVIEW OF THE FRITSCHI XENIC BINDING

FRITSCHI XENIC MANUFACTURER’S OPINION

The lightness, easy fitting, and easy handling make the Fritschi Xenic the eminently agile companion in ski touring on all terrains. On descent, the 10 mm longitudinal flex compensation of the ski ensures reliable release at the set value. The toe piece guarantees a secure hold at the front, and at the back, the extremely wide heel support provides easy ski control. Ski boots form a system that functions optimally when all components are adjusted to each other for a particular use. Generally speaking, all models with inserts are compatible with a few exceptions. Fritschi recommends checking compatibility by having the 4-point check performed by a qualified professional.

It took patience, but Fritschi releases a lightweight binding that seems well-developed with everything expected for safe skiing. At 580g per pair (500g without ski brakes), the Fritschi Xenic 10 offers a ski brake, an 8mm play compensation, a 25mm length adjustment, and vertical AND frontal hardness adjustment from 4 to 10. The front pins are quite innovative with a horizontal movement that prevents accidental releases. Fritschi announces that it is no longer even necessary to lock the system. Another good news, a price of 380€ with ski brakes and 330€ without. We can just regret that there is no version with a higher DIN. That said, a very large majority of skiers do not need it.

Available in a version (Fritschi Xenic 7) with a lower DIN 3-7. The Xenic is also offered in a version without ski brakes.
