OUR REVIEW OF THE FRITSCHI XENIC PLUS BINDING

New this season, the Xenic now comes in a Plus version, which keeps all the features of the original model while adding two key upgrades: an additional climbing heel riser and a DIN range increased up to 12 for the Plus 12 version. The weight increase is minimal, only 30 g per pair. Aside from that, the binding is exactly the same as the standard Xenic (see previous page).

Fritschi had already made a strong impact with the Xenic, establishing itself firmly in the lightweight binding segment. With a very competitive weight, the Xenic Plus retains everything that made the original model successful: effective toe elasticity management, easy-to-handle heel risers, and comprehensive adjustments (length, vertical and lateral release). The overall ergonomics remain unchanged: the binding is still very straightforward and intuitive to use, even for occasional ski tourers.

The step-in performance is identical to the improved Xenic generation. Entry is smooth and obvious thanks to the red guide piece that aligns the boot. A light downward pressure is enough to engage the binding, and the horizontally moving front pins still provide that unique elasticity which reduces unwanted releases β€” a system exclusive to Fritschi.

The heel unit is the same as on the latest Xenic: stiffer, better sealed, and equipped with a metal disc for smoother transitions between climbing and skiing modes. The automatic brake works flawlessly and can still be removed without unscrewing the binding from the ski, simply by sliding the heel unit off the rail. The risers remain easy to operate with a pole.

The main benefit of this Plus version is the wider DIN range up to 12, which will appeal to stronger or more aggressive skiers who found the DIN 10 limit a bit restrictive. The additional heel riser also brings extra comfort on long, steady climbs.

In conclusion, the Xenic Plus keeps everything that made the Xenic strong, while adding the two upgrades that many demanding skiers were waiting for: more security thanks to the DIN 12 option, and more comfort on the climb with an extra riser. All this with almost no weight penalty and the same intuitive handling.

FRITSCHI XENIC MANUFACTURER’S OPINION

The new Xenic Plus from Fritschi redefines performance in the lightweight binding category. Designed to offer maximum comfort on the ascent while ensuring remarkable safety and precision on the descent, it is aimed at ski tourers who simply want it all: fluidity, reliability, and power. Thanks to careful construction and well-thought-out innovations, long ascents and technical terrains become more accessible, less tiring, and quicker to master.

Equipped with an innovative front toe piece with an extra-wide pedal and a metal insert on the lever, the Xenic Plus ensures quick and secure step-in, even in the most demanding conditions. On the ascent, two heel riser levels (7 mm and 11 mm) allow effective adaptation to all types of slopes, while on the descent, the binding offers precise ski control, impeccable hold, and reliable release, thanks to a 10 mm longitudinal compensation and a widened support at the heel.

Available in two versions, the Xenic Plus 10 (DIN 4–10) and the Xenic Plus 12 (DIN 6–12), it is suitable for both light and powerful skiers, depending on the desired level of support. Weighing only 580 g per pair without ski brakes and 690g with, the binding remains very light while integrating a complete safety package, including an included ski brake (available in 85, 95, or 105 mm depending on the ski width).

With an adjustment range of 25 mm, a height without riser of 3Β°, and compatibility with skis from 70 to 105 mm in width, the Xenic Plus combines agility on the ascent with true assurance on the descent. It stands out as one of the most high-performing and versatile bindings in its category, designed to tackle all terrains without compromise.
