Plum Karibou

OUR REVIEW OF THE PLUM KARIBOU BINDING

MANUFACTURER’S OPINION

This season, the big novelty at Plum is the Karibou binding, available in three versions: Karibou 12, Karibou 7 Stopper, and Karibou 12 Stopper. What sets it apart from other bindings on the market is its developed and patented compensation system, unique in its kind, located at the front, under the toe piece, for the entire range. This compensation system offers a total elasticity of 12 mm, including the usual 4 mm at the back and 8 mm integrated into the front system. This allows for a better balance between the weight of the toe piece and that of the heel piece, as well as an optimal distribution of elasticity between the two.

This improvement results in better progressivity of the ski flex during large compressions, whether in very tight turns or during jumps. Moreover, it limits the risk of tearing off the front toe piece in case of strong impacts and improves release in such situations. Another advantage of the Karibou binding is its compatibility with the older models of the Plum Summit range, allowing users to benefit from the improvements brought by this new system without having to change their bindings. Regarding specific versions, the Karibou 12 is designed for freeride skiers looking for a no-compromise binding. Its patented system offers elasticity in the front toe piece, thus improving the ski flex during large compressions. It is the ideal binding for aggressive skiers seeking optimal performance. Its public price is €519 including tax.

The Karibou 7 Stopper is specially adapted for women or lightweight skiers who want a powerful binding. It offers a lower release range and all the advantages in terms of comfort (automatic stoppers, pole-manipulable riser) and freeride performance (wider screw spacing, raised front base for flat skiing). The elasticity of its front toe piece ensures a better balance of masses and optimizes the ski flex, especially on softer skis. The public price of the Karibou 7 Stopper is €619 including tax. Finally, the Karibou 12 Stopper combines comfort on the ascent and skiability on the descent. It includes automatic stoppers, pole-manipulable risers, a wide base, a flat skiing position, and high release values for both touring and resort skiing.

Like the other models, it integrates elasticity in the front toe piece to improve the ski flex during large compressions, making it the ultimate choice for powerful skiers. Its public price is also €619 including tax. With the Karibou range, Plum offers high-quality ski touring bindings, providing both lightness, performance, and an innovative front compensation technology for an exceptional skiing experience.
