PRESENTATION OF THE SALOMON MTN SUMMIT S/LAB
The Salomon S/LAB MTN Summit sits at the top of Salomon’s MTN Summit ski touring boot range. This family is specifically developed for touring and differs from the Shift Alpha and Shift Supra, which are much more freeride touring-oriented. The MTN Summit platform focuses on lightweight construction, generous cuff mobility and closure systems designed for long ascents on skins.
The top-end MTN Summit model
The S/LAB MTN Summit is the highest-end version of the family. Its construction uses materials selected to keep weight down while providing the level of stiffness targeted by Salomon, with a positioning aimed at sporty ski touring, big vertical days and alpine routes. Its ski/walk mechanism releases the cuff during ascents, while the minimalist architecture reduces the number of components compared with the brand’s freeride touring boots. The S/LAB MTN Summit also features a closure system specifically designed for touring, allowing the foot and cuff to be secured without relying on the traditional four-buckle architecture of an alpine ski boot. It features tech inserts for pin bindings and a sole designed for the sections on foot encountered on ski touring routes.
S/LAB MTN Summit, MTN Summit Pro and MTN Summit: the different versions
The Salomon MTN Summit range includes several versions based on the same overall philosophy, with differences in materials, construction and equipment. The S/LAB MTN Summit sits at the top of the family as its most technical version. It is followed by the MTN Summit Pro, which retains a sporty positioning and a construction aimed at regular ski tourers. The MTN Summit completes the family with a more accessible configuration while retaining the main characteristics of the platform: touring-specific construction, ski/walk mode, tech inserts and generous cuff mobility. Depending on Salomon’s collections and available versions, the family also includes women’s models, built around the same MTN Summit platform with specific fit and features.
With the S/LAB MTN Summit, MTN Summit Pro and MTN Summit, Salomon therefore offers a range specifically dedicated to ski touring, complementing the Shift Alpha BOA and Shift Supra BOA models aimed more towards freeride touring. The S/LAB sits at the top of the family, followed by the Pro and Summit with progressively different levels of construction and equipment.
