Atomic Ski Touring Boots

Atomic offers a particularly broad range of ski touring boots, covering everything from lightweight models designed for long tours and big vertical days to freerando boots with a much stronger downhill focus. The range is primarily divided into two main families: Atomic Backland, developed specifically for ski touring, and Hawx XTD, which combines an alpine-inspired construction with a walk mode for touring.

Atomic Backland: lightweight boots for ski touring and long ascents
The Atomic Backland family sits at the heart of the brand’s ski touring range. For 2026/2027, it includes the Backland Carbon UL, Backland Carbon and Backland Pro, featuring a narrow 98 mm Touring Last and a generous 74° range of motion. The new Backland Carbon UL takes the lightweight concept even further, with a stated weight of just 982 g per boot in size 26/26.5.
The Backland range prioritises freedom of movement on the ascent and low weight for tours involving significant vertical gain. Depending on the model, Atomic uses different shell and cuff materials, liners and ski/walk mechanisms to create several configurations with different balances between weight, support and construction.
The broader Backland family also includes the Backland XTD, which moves the concept towards freerando. With its wider 100 mm fit and more substantial construction, the Backland XTD provides an intermediate option between Atomic’s lightweight touring boots and the more alpine-oriented Hawx XTD family.

Atomic Hawx XTD: freerando-oriented ski touring boots
At the other end of the range, the Atomic Hawx XTD boots are aimed at skiers looking for an architecture closer to an alpine ski boot while retaining a walk mode and the ability to tour with climbing skins. Their more substantial construction positions them primarily for freerando, lift-accessed backcountry skiing and tours where the descent is a major priority.
Atomic offers this concept with different fits. The Hawx Ultra XTD BOA features a narrow 98 mm fit, while the Hawx Prime XTD BOA provides a medium-volume alternative and the Hawx Magna XTD BOA is designed around a higher-volume fit. For 2026/2027, the Hawx XTD range uses the BOA Fit System, with several stated flex ratings and men’s and women’s variants available depending on the family.
With the Backland, Backland XTD and Hawx XTD families, Atomic therefore covers a particularly wide spectrum of ski touring: from an ultralight sub-1 kg touring boot designed for big ascents to more substantial freerando models intended to combine resort skiing, backcountry descents and skin track access.
