PRESENTATION OF THE ATOMIC BACKLAND XTD CARBON 120
A freerando-oriented Backland with a wider fit The Atomic Backland XTD expands the Backland family towards more downhill-oriented ski touring. Compared with the 98 mm last used on the lighter Backland models, the XTD features a 100 mm last, providing additional volume for skiers looking for a roomier fit while retaining the touring features of the Backland platform. The boot uses Atomic’s Prolite construction, with strategic reinforcements in key areas of the lower shell and cuff. This architecture is designed to provide additional structure while keeping weight under control for ski touring use.
74° range of motion for ski touring For the ascent, the Backland XTD offers a generous 74° range of motion. The Free/Lock 4.5 ski/walk mechanism works together with the Frictionless Pivot to release the cuff during the ascent before locking it back into ski mode for the descent. Closure is handled by the Cross Lace 2.5 system, which routes the cable through the buckle to wrap the lower shell around the foot. The 3D Platinum Tour liner features a breathable and washable construction with Dry Fit foam for moisture management during long days in the backcountry.
Backland XTD Carbon 120, Carbon 120 GW, 110 and 100 The Atomic Backland XTD range is available in several variants with different stated flex ratings, shell constructions and sole configurations. The Backland XTD Carbon 120 features a stated 120 flex and weighs 2,760 g per pair in size 26.5. The Backland XTD Carbon 120 GW shares the same stated flex and weight but adds GripWalk compatibility for use with compatible alpine bindings. The Backland XTD 110 has a stated 110 flex and a polyamide (PA) shell. It is listed at 1,738 g per pair in size 26.5. The Backland XTD 100 uses a polyurethane (PU) shell with a stated 100 flex and a weight of 3,048 g per pair in size 26.5. Across the range, the Backland XTD combines a 100 mm fit, 74° range of motion and Free/Lock 4.5 ski/walk mechanism. Within Atomic’s ski touring boot line-up, it offers a more freerando-oriented alternative to the lighter and narrower Backland Carbon, Backland Carbon UL and Backland Pro mode
