Salomon MTN Summit Binding

Salomon MTN SUMMIT 12 BR Binding

OUR REVIEW OF THE SALOMON MTN SUMMIT BINDING

MANUFACTURER’S OPINION

After a long wait, the Salomon MTN binding (also known as Backland at Atomic) has finally been renewed! At first glance, there is no major revolution: the weight, general appearance, and ski brakes are identical. However, a closer look reveals some very interesting developments.

First of all, the new MTN Summit (Backland Summit at Atomic) now features a play compensation system between the boot and the binding at the rear (4 mm). This allows for precise adjustment of the boot’s position in the binding, ensuring better support and optimal power transmission. Additionally, the DIN setting is now possible laterally. The vertical DIN remains fixed, but it can be changed by replacing the U. This flexibility allows skiers to customize the binding according to their preferences and skill level.

The materials used in the construction of the binding have also been revised. Despite a similar weight to the previous version, this new iteration offers more modern and up-to-date features. However, some might have hoped for a slight weight reduction for even more optimal performance in the mountains.

The MTN Summit binding range includes several versions, each suited to different levels and styles of skiing:

– Summit 5 BR: Lateral DIN adjustable from 3 to 5 with ski brakes. Weight of 790 g per pair.
– Summit 9 BR: Lateral DIN adjustable from 4 to 9 with ski brakes. Weight of 790 g per pair.
– Summit 12 BR: Lateral DIN adjustable from 6 to 12 with ski brakes. Weight of 790 g per pair.
– Summit 9 LSH: Lateral DIN adjustable from 4 to 9 without ski brakes. Weight of 590 g per pair.
– Summit 12 LSH: Lateral DIN adjustable from 6 to 12 without ski brakes. Weight of 590 g per pair.
These different versions offer lateral DIN adjustment options to meet the needs of skiers of different levels and preferences. The versions with ski brakes are equipped with integrated brakes, providing additional safety in case of release. The versions without ski brakes are lighter, making them ideal for skiers who prioritize lightness and uphill performance.

In summary, the new Salomon MTN Summit binding represents a welcome evolution of the previous version. With improvements such as play compensation, lateral DIN adjustment, and the use of optimized materials, this binding offers increased performance and comfort to ski touring enthusiasts. Whether you are a beginner or experienced skier, you can choose from the different versions to find the one that best suits your needs and skiing style.
