Splitboard bindings 2027: the test/comparison

This comparison includes almost all splitboard bindings, whether designed for hardboots or softboots. Two approaches, two philosophies, but the same goal: to climb efficiently and fully enjoy the descent. While user profiles differ, it is essential to understand the strengths and limitations of each system to make an informed choice. Here are some keys to understanding how the models work and the criteria to compare.

1 The Interface: This is often the point that most differentiates brands. The interface refers to the connection system between the binding and the board, both for climbing and descending. In climbing mode, there is usually a front bracket to attach the binding or a low-tech front for some hardboot models.
In descent mode, the binding is positioned on pucks or specific systems, depending on the brand. Interfaces can vary in terms of weight, ease of installation, strength, or ergonomics. Some are more intuitive or quicker to handle than others.

2 Climb/Descent Transitions: The speed of transitions is one of the most important criteria, especially in difficult weather conditions or exposed terrain. Integrated systems, without separate pins, allow for simpler and faster locking. Conversely, some bindings require additional manipulations or the use of moving parts (clips, axes, etc.), which can slow down and complicate the transition.
Prefer models designed for quick transitions, even with gloves or in the wind.

3 Climbing Risers: Each brand offers its own riser system to facilitate steep climbs. The best systems today allow risers to be manipulated with the pole, without bending down. Others, less practical, require manipulating the riser on the board, often contorting or removing the glove.
The ergonomics of the risers is therefore a criterion not to be neglected, especially if the terrain is uneven….
