OUR REVIEW OF OGSO STS 95
Within OGSO’s new touring range, the STS 95 clearly stands out as the most accomplished model. It is also the one that impressed us most: the most versatile and balanced ski in the range, capable of adapting to a wide variety of conditions without displaying any major limitations.
With its 95 mm waist, it provides genuine comfort as soon as the snow becomes soft or slightly deep. Its large shovel and generous rocker deliver excellent float and good stability in these conditions. In powder, the ski does the job extremely well and allows you to ski in a relaxed and confident manner.
When the snow firms up or becomes spring-like, it remains perfectly capable. Edge grip is very respectable and sits around the category average. The radius is well judged, making carving enjoyable without requiring Mach 12 speeds to bring the ski to life. In these conditions, it remains pleasant and sufficiently precise to vary your lines.
Compared with the Gran Daddy 105, versatility improves significantly. The STS 95 does not have the same highly specialised powder character. While the 105 quickly reveals its limitations when the snow becomes hard or transformed, the 95 performs reasonably well everywhere, making it a far more logical one-ski quiver.
It nevertheless shares certain characteristics with the other skis in the range. The snow feel remains slightly harsh, particularly in firm conditions. The shovel works hard and moves around fairly easily, especially on spring or hard snow. This does not really affect control, but it is not the most pleasant sensation.
The ski remains easy to get to grips with. Its moderate camber and firm but not excessive flex make it fairly intuitive. It pivots easily and remains accessible while providing enough support for skiers who like to charge. It requires some energy but is far from excessively demanding.
On the ascent, at 3,100 g per pair in 178 cm on our scales compared with a claimed 2,900 g, it sits towards the heavier end of the category average. To maintain a coherent touring setup, it is best paired with a lightweight binding to compensate for this slight excess weight—unless you have very strong legs. That is the price to pay for a ski of this width that remains so versatile.
Ultimately, the STS 95 is probably the most coherent model in OGSO’s touring range: a balanced ski that performs well in a wide variety of conditions, providing genuine comfort in soft snow while remaining capable when the surface firms up. A logical option for anyone seeking a versatile one-ski quiver.
