The announcement sent a small shockwave through the mountain world: for the first time in history, ski mountaineering will feature on the official program of the Winter Olympic Games.
See you in February 2026, in Milan-Cortina, to witness the birth of a new Olympic discipline — one that carries the passion of a fast-growing community.
A recent story
While it might seem like a natural evolution — given the sport’s spectacular growth over the past two decades — the inclusion of ski mountaineering in the Olympic calendar is actually the result of a long and deliberate process.
The first spotlight came in 2020, during the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne. For the first time, young athletes competed under the Olympic rings, offering a global showcase for a discipline that had, until then, remained largely under the radar.
