After scouring for many years the freeride routes of the small resorts of Maurienne, an original idea appeared to us as if by magic: to carry out an interstation crossing over several days between the areas we know well, namely Les Karellis, Valloire, Valmeinier, Valfréjus and La Norma.
As good image hunters that we are, it is out of the question to complete all the climbs with skins, but to use the ski lifts wisely to optimize the D+/D− ratio and favor beautiful wild descents.
The journey therefore begins at Les Karellis, this small resort that has managed to remain human-sized and non-profit, with more than reasonable prices. The resort also celebrated its 50th anniversary last season with great festivities, including the Ogres de Barback concert in the open air, in the middle of winter!
For the record, the commune of Montricher-Albanne launched a crazy project in the early 1970s: to create an all-inclusive ski offer accessible to all, in the form of a cooperative society. In 1976, the resort was officially inaugurated and Radio K was created: each room in the resort had its car radio tuned to the Karellis frequency.
Let’s get back to our journey, with a perfectly timed program over three days to La Norma, a small cozy resort at the entrance to Haute-Maurienne. This resort has also managed to remain accessible, family-friendly and human-sized, with a climate close to that of the Hautes-Alpes: a border area conducive to returns from the east and beautiful forests dotted with larches, pleasant to ski.
