The Moudang Valley remains almost deserted in winter, while just to the west, ski tourers gather at the Bielsa tunnel to enjoy direct access to high altitude.
Here, the approach requires more effort: a track at the bottom of the valley, closed to traffic, and a start at only 1,000 m altitude are enough to discourage a good number of contenders. Indeed, it takes a lot of motivation to tackle the 6 km that separate the parking lot from the Moudang barns, on foot or on skis… and it’s just a warm-up before reaching the intended route.
The solution? Bike-skiing! This valley is particularly well-suited for it thanks to a smooth and regular track, without steep slopes (and even more accessible by electric bike, of course!). With the modest altitude and increasingly mild winters, it is becoming more common to reach the barns by bike even in the middle of winter.
