Building on the success of our previous editions, this new 2026 guide to refuges returns enriched and updated. You will find updated opening dates, as well as an expanded selection of guarded refuges not only in France, but also with our Italian, Swiss, and Spanish neighbors, to prepare your most beautiful cross-border raids.
We have chosen to reference only the guarded refuges, true anchor points for spring ski touring. Of course, unguarded refuges and winter sections remain accessible for the more autonomous, but the comfort and atmosphere are not comparable.
For each refuge, we indicate the starting point, the access elevation gain, the nearby skiable peaks or routes, as well as a link to the website for real-time information.
Most refuges open between mid-March and the end of the season, the ideal period for ski touring: the snow cover is often optimal after winter falls, the days are getting longer, and the stability of the snowpack allows for more ambitious routes in complete serenity.
So, whether you’re heading out for a day trip, a multi-day raid, or simply to enjoy an evening in a refuge facing the peaks, this guide is your companion to end the season beautifully.
