OUR REVIEW OF THE PHENIX BLACKBIRD SPLITBOARD
MANUFACTURER’S OPINION
The Phenix Blackbird is an alpine surfing splitboard designed for alpine racing, so it has been designed to climb very quickly, on all types of snow.
It is the lightest 4-part splitboard on the market with its 2700g bare (for riders under 65 kg / 100% paulownia construction / 84mm ski) and 2900g for those under 80 kg (dimensions1) with a construction composed of a paulownia / bamboo core and quadriaxial carbon fiber which allows for a true touring ski, and a true snowboard for the descent. (* Above 77kg the design of the Blackbird will be custom-made to fit the rider’s measurements)
Its double flex derived from series models, it is very maneuverable in corridors, and returns in the forest. It has a progressive front spatula adapted to touring, which facilitates conversions and allows easy flotation, its 9 mm pintail promotes pivoting and allows for good speeds in direct tracing, its behavior is very good on hard snow thanks to its circular radius (single radius) coupled with the Phenix “double flex” which also has a powerful front foot.Construction:
– Fibers derived from skiing (Quadriaxial Carbon 800g and 600g) and its Paulownia/Bamboo core
– ABS edges inside the SKIS and the central part.
– Angle adjustments from 0° to 25° goofy/regular (angles above custom-made).
– Overlapping pucks: OVER-RIDE system for load transfer and board cohesion.
– Central part with ACCESS system: quick assembly, maintains the board’s flex, also benefits from OVER-RIDE – alu 7075T6 –
– Adapter plate for spark LT-PIN, LOWTECH and others, also uses the OVER-RIDE system.
– Internal sidecut for skis to maintain torsional flex: the TORX CONTROL
– Choice of radii (8.2m/12m/13.6m) / Choice of ski widths (82mm/88mm/92mm)
– Plum WOM hooks / Tip-clips
