Isola 2000 in ski touring mode

In the Alpes-Maritimes department, the Isola 2000 ski resort offers the highest-altitude access to snow — and that is undoubtedly its greatest asset. As the name suggests, at 2,000 meters you can step out of your car and almost immediately clip into your skis, a privilege that guarantees ski-in/ski-out conditions for much of the season. In this region, such convenience is rare — and becoming even rarer.

It is also one of the only resorts reachable by public transport from Nice, at a very affordable price. Of course, in peak season there’s a cost to pay: crowds, noise, and sometimes even packed slopes. But don’t worry — it’s actually easy to escape civilization here, whether by heading toward the Terre Rouge lakes, still relatively close to the pistes, or more radically, by crossing over to the Italian side, completely deserted in winter.
