OUR TEST OF THE HEAD CRUX PRO SHOE
MANUFACTURER’S OPINION
At HEAD, we have assembled a professional team of ski touring skiers to create a shoe that meets the highest expectations of the market. After a thorough analysis of competing models, we decided to take on the challenge of designing the ideal touring shoe, incorporating all relevant criteria into a single product. Thus was born the Head Crux Pro, a shoe that stands out for its exceptional performance, unmatched comfort, and ease of use.
High-Level Performance
The Head Crux Pro was designed to offer high-level performance. The comfortable wrap-around shell is designed to perfectly fit the shape of the foot, with a metatarsal width of 99 mm. Thanks to the use of Pebax composite fiber, the shoe combines lightness and responsiveness, ensuring a precise fit to the foot with a minimal thickness of 2.5 mm. This innovative material reduces weight while providing optimal support.
Superior Control
The two-buckle collar of the Head Crux Pro, with its high profile, immediately provides the feel and support of a high-performance alpine ski boot. This feature ensures superior ski control, even in the most demanding conditions and at high speed. The dynamic LYT frame, another key innovation, connects the entire system (shell, collar, ascent/ski system), ensuring the most direct and powerful energy transmission. This design also allows for a smooth feel on the snow, optimizing ski control.
Ease of Walking
Ease of walking is another major asset of the Head Crux Pro. It offers a smooth and wide range of motion of 55°, allowing great freedom of movement during ascents. The frictionless canting adds to comfort by minimizing resistance during effort. Additionally, the shoe is equipped with a Vibram Durastep sole with traction lugs, offering exceptional grip on all surfaces. The sole has been specially designed to optimize foot roll, making each step more natural and efficient.
Comfort of Putting On and Taking Off
The comfort of putting on and taking off was also a priority in the design of the Head Crux Pro. The closure systems and the transition to walk/ski mode have been simplified for easy and intuitive use, even in difficult conditions. With a weight of 1,400 grams for size 27.5 and about 1,330 grams for size 26.5, this shoe is one of the lightest in its category, which helps reduce fatigue and improve performance over long distances.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Head Crux Pro represents the culmination of our commitment to offering ski touring enthusiasts a shoe that combines advanced technology, superior comfort, and ease of use. Whether for demanding ascents or technical descents, the Head Crux Pro is designed to meet all the needs of the most demanding skiers, making it the benchmark in touring shoes.
