OUR TEST OF THE BLUE ICE HARFANG TOUR

MANUFACTURER’S OPINION
The Blue Ice Harfang Tour represents a new generation of crampons for ski touring and light mountaineering. Designed in Chamonix, in the heart of the Mont-Blanc massif, this model perfectly illustrates Blue Ice’s philosophy: to create minimalist, technical, and extremely functional equipment. Weighing approximately 330 grams per pair, the Harfang Tour is one of the lightest crampons on the market, while offering remarkable grip and reliability on hard snow and moderate ice. Its design is based on a modular and flexible architecture, the result of unique engineering expertise.
The manufacture of the Harfang Tour combines forged and CNC machined aluminum elements, connected by a high-strength textile central strap. This construction choice revolutionizes the traditional design of crampons: the rigid metal bar is replaced by a UHMWPE (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) strap, a material as light as it is strong, used in high-performance ropes. This strap connects the front part, equipped with hardened aluminum spikes, to the heel piece, also in aluminum, allowing for ultra-compact folding and storage in a small provided bag.
Each metal element of the Harfang Tour is cut, formed, and anodized in partner workshops in Europe, before being manually assembled in Chamonix. The surface treatments ensure excellent resistance to corrosion and thermal cycles. The bindings use the universal automatic and semi-automatic system, with a front bail and an adjustable rear lever to fit most technical shoes. Blue Ice pays particular attention to quality control, with each pair being tested to check the tension of the strap, the geometry of the spikes, and the compatibility of the bindings.
In the field, the Harfang Tour stands out for its astonishing stability despite its flexibility. It adapts perfectly to the curves of the sole, improving comfort during long approaches or traverses. Its lightness makes it ideal for quick outings in high mountains, ski raids, or races where every gram counts. It offers excellent grip on hard snow and spring ice, while remaining robust enough for regular use in ski mountaineering.
Thanks to its ingenious design and careful assembly, the Blue Ice Harfang Tour symbolizes a new approach to crampon manufacturing: simple, technical, and durable. It proves that it is possible to combine extreme lightness, reliability, and compactness, without sacrificing safety. This model is now a reference for demanding skiers and mountaineers, in search of efficiency and freedom in the mountains.
