The Backland range returns unchanged for the 2025/2026 season. The number of models available is still impressive, and it can be hard to navigate. Here’s a quick summary to help you see more clearly:

Backland UL, Atomic’s ultra-light skis, are back with 4 widths (62, 65, 80, and 86 mm). The Backland 80 UL weighs 2100g per pair in 170 cm.

Backland SL, Atomic’s lightweight touring skis, also return unchanged with 2 widths available, each also offered in a women’s version (W): 86 and 89 mm. The Backland 89 SL weighs 2440g per pair in 176 cm.

Backland, Atomic’s « classic » touring skis, are also carried over. Available in 3 widths, also with women’s versions (W): 85, 88, and 95 mm. The Backland 88 weighs 2600g per pair in 176 cm.

Backland FR, the freeride-touring skis, are brand new for 2024/2025! Available in 2 widths: 102 mm (101 mm for the women’s version) and 109 mm (108 mm for the women’s). The Backland 102 weighs 2800g per pair in 180 cm.

The major innovation in the Backland line is a more environmentally friendly construction, with no compromise on performance according to the brand. The skis feature a locally sourced poplar wood core and significantly reduced amounts of fiberglass, resin, and metal. The result? An average 30% reduction in CO₂ emissions.

Another key improvement is the HRZN 3D tip, which has a wider, beveled, three-dimensional shape that increases surface area, offering better float in powder and improved handling in variable snow conditions.

Also worth noting is the introduction of an 88/89 mm waist width, which did not exist previously and could be an excellent option for skiers looking for a versatile ski.

Of course, on-snow testing is still needed to get the full picture.
