PRESENTATION OF THE ATOMIC BACKLAND 95
The Atomic Backland 95 touring ski is designed to explore the wildest terrains, where the effects of the climate crisis are often most evident. Thanks to its eco-friendly design, this ski offers an average 30% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to previous versions. The locally sourced poplar wood core and reduced use of fiberglass, resin, and metal are behind this performance. Atomic is committed to an environmental approach, conducting life cycle assessments (LCA) on every product it redesigns. The Backland 85, the first ski in their range to undergo an LCA, revealed that raw materials were the most significant impact factors. Designers have therefore worked with innovative tools to reduce the ski’s overall carbon footprint while improving its performance on snow.
The Backland 95 features the HRZN 3D, a wider and beveled three-dimensional tip that increases the surface area for better flotation on powder and better maneuverability in variable conditions. The HRZN 3D, integrated with the Dura Cap sidewall, also offers a hyper-responsive connection between the tip and the sidewall for increased durability.
The all-terrain profile is a completely redesigned ski construction, using locally sourced wood and less fiberglass for a lighter, stronger, and more versatile ski. This new material allows for an evolving sidecut and ski shape that offers greater versatility on and off-piste, whether on powder, hard snow, groomed runs, or any other intermediate condition.
In short, the Atomic Backland 95 touring ski is designed to go beyond the limits of slopes and ski lifts while minimizing its environmental impact. With its technical innovations and eco-friendly materials, this ski is a solution for ski enthusiasts seeking adventure and ecological responsibility.
